Having an enclosed shelf system in the garden is very useful. I found an old book shelf with slats for sliding doors so I sealed it with urethane, purchased custom-sized clear 1/8" plexiglass from Tap Plastics, and placed the unit outdoors but under cover of a roof. The top shelf contains a gardening reference section for adults and field guides and the bottom shelf contains books for children in alphabetical order by title.

Each month I put out a selection of books related to what is happening in the garden out in a basket, encouraging teachers and children alike to take some peaceful time together.
